Project Ariel is an exploration and puzzle game driven by a love for nature and the beauty of the English countryside, the landscapes are a representation of what nature is capable of and the destructiveness that mankind can do. This proof of concept aims to utilise key gameplay mechanics and showcase a uniquely painterly art direction.

Initial concepts for this project aimed at creating bold colour pallets that stood out for each scene.

From the very beginning the goal was to create a game that allowed the player to heavily interact with the environment, as a result the UI would be part of the player.

Representations of manmade structures and environments would would be dark and muted to reflect the bleak nature of its impact on the environment.

A major mechanic would be the use of abilities that are tied to boxes collected by the player, each one serving a unique purpose. Losing them would reduce the players life and loose them that ability. Allowing the game to play very dynamically and reducing gameplay repetitiveness.
